I'm Chris, as founder of Kathenas Fitness, I am proud to share the physical challenges that I have confronted and the turns that my life has took to get me where I am today. Although you have your own story, I ask you to consider what is holding you back.
5'10 150lbs., that's all I ever was and figured would be. Watching everyone else get taller, bigger, stronger and faster. I started out curious about proper weight gain and loss, staying healthy and wanting to stay determined to see results. I spent all my early 20's playing sports and being on the infamous "see-food" diet, eating everything I saw no matter if it were junk or healthy. I gained a few pounds here and there, but never sustained anything substantial. I was still the same ole' Chris with the crazy high metabolism who could eat his own body weight in food but never gained weight. Then, one day I finally asked one of those taller, bigger, stronger, faster guys at the gym if I could work in with him between sets. The rest, as they say, is history. He had me running around the gym lifting unforeseen amounts of weight and making sure I was performing each exercise correctly. It awakened something deep inside of me, I could hear my body saying "this is what I've been waiting for"!
I grew 2 inches, put on 80lbs in a little over a year, tried out and was signed to a semi-pro football team and living my dream of being pro-level athlete. Then it happened, playing a pick-up game of basketball, I went to block a shot and down in a heap, ACL and Meniscus torn. After a lengthy rehab, I was back up and running, playing football until four years later. With our normal starter out, I stepped in to play Quarterback and one fumbled snap and a blitzing defensive lineman later, and there I go back to rehab with a torn ACL in my other knee. Through proper rehab and conditioning I was able to bounce back again and I made a promise to myself that from that point I would start crossing off more things on my bucket list. If I could make it through just one more of playing football with a serious injury, I would retire.
Next up on my list was to take a dance class. I had always dreamed of being a dancer ever since I was little, pushing back the sofa, watching and emulating Michael Jackson. I was "the jock" of the family so that dream had never come to be...until now! I signed up in was was supposed to be just a one-time intro to ballet class at Joy of Motion and could then say I did it. What happened next would be beyond amazing. I got hooked. I signed up for every Modern, Jazz and Ballet class and went every day wanting to be pushed to learn as much as I could. Then one morning after ballet, my instructor pulled me aside and said she had a part for me in choreography. From that brief conversation, and many more since, I am now a professional dancer.
After realizing my dreams from playing football to become a professional dancer, I obtained my ISSA Fitness Trainer Certification and founded Kathenas Fitness to use my experiences to help others realize theirs. I've shared my path to being and staying fit with you in hopes that you want my help to develop your own. Kathenas Fitness wants to put your body in the best position to answer just about anything you ask of it.
